It was a sunny Saturday afternoon and we ventured to Chelsea to try out Zheng Chelsea’s new lunchtime menu. Zheng has a classic and spacious interior with plenty of light coming in despite the dark panelling around the restaurant. Since we had arrived early, it was very quiet and there was plenty of room so we had our pick of tables at the restaurant.
Zheng Chelsea’s lunchtime menu consisted of two vegetarian options for starters: Vegetarian hot and sour soup and Vegetarian spring rolls. Again, there were two vegetarian options for mains: Stewed aubergine with chilli and Singapore noodles. . There were then three options for dessert as well (however we were already stuffed by the time we had to think about dessert).
I personally went for the hot and sour soup to start and the Singapore noodles for mains. The soup was very filling and had some very hot chillies in there – you have been warned! Some of the chillies decided to gang up on me and arrive in one ridiculously hot mouthful (but still tasty).
The Singapore noodles were well presented and they were certainly generous with their portion sizes. By the time I had finished, I was ready for a nap! Overall the food was tasty and there was nothing I could really fault – if you’re looking for authentic food then here you go. Was it the most extravagant or creative meal I have ever had? No, but it was flavoursome and filling and that’s exactly what I look for in a lunchtime meal.
